Facade Tectonics Forum: Simulation vs. Reality

Energy Modeling Best Practices and Why Facades Matter

Current energy modeling practices have stifled innovation and advancement in the facade industry by under-representing the impact of the facade system on energy efficiency, and creating artificially high return on investments for facade system improvements. This summit advocates the need for improved energy modeling and the development of best practices, with emphasis on the critical role of the building facade system. The event will focus on the status of industry modeling best practices from markets that have recently adopted stricter energy codes (i.e. Seattle, Vancouver, Toronto, New York City). The discussion will include code changes, their trajectory, the adequacy of current analytical tools used for modeling, and the importance of post-occupancy measurement/verification to validate the predicted operational performance from the energy model.
