2025 Vitruvian Honors & Awards Program

Student Facade Project Award

The VH&A Student Project Award is intended to recognize and honor students who are showing exceptional promise, to showcase these individuals and their work, and introduce them to the building industry.

Candidates must be in pursuit of a degree in a field involving the building arts and sciences. Academic works of the students recognized here should be consistent with the goals of the Institute in advancing the art, science and technology of conceptualizing, designing, planning, and constructing high performance building facades for the benefit of planet and people, and with the General Assessment Criteria of the Vitruvian Honors & Awards program. Applications from or nominations of student project work involving facades research or applications of facade design and/or delivery are welcome, including both studio and non-studio works. Applications from project teams are welcome.

A monetary award of 500 USD will be given to the winning individual or team.

Once started, the online submission form must be completed in its entirety and cannot be partially saved. However, you will be able to edit your entry after the initial submission up until the deadline.

  • Provide visual and/or narrative representation of the project being submitted.

  • A headshot and short biography must be submitted for all nominees.

  • Provide background information (for all applicants if a team project). This may include a resume, curriculum vitae, portfolio, biography, or other forms of descriptive background materials.

  • All work submitted must be original or properly cited and credited.

Technical and Visual Documentation

Research projects can be represented in report form including graphs, tables, charts, and images as relevant, or by visual presentation as follows.

Visual representation is required for studio project work. Slide decks as developed for final presentations are ideal.

Images and drawings should be submitted as a single PDF file and should be high resolution. Links to any video or animated components may be noted in the narrative description of the submission.

All submissions will be reviewed, but the following format—while not required—is recommended to best represent your project to the jury for consideration.

Visualization – One (1) multi-page PDF file (max. 10 pages) formatted at 11”x17” (ledger) in landscape orientation, representing the project submittal, including images, drawings, and narrative. Do not link or embed objects in the PDF. Supporting backup data, calculations, and commentary to supplement the visualization boards can be provided through the submission form as discussed above.

The first page (board) should be a cover page for the submission, including: a "hero" image of the design featuring the facade system; the project name and location; the school name, course designation, and instructor(s); the project team members (if relevant), with the Facade Tectonics Institute and Vitruvian Honors & Awards logos (to be provided) at the lower left corner.

Following boards should be numbered in sequence.

All images and narrative included with the submission must be original work by the student or student team members. Other images can be included if properly credited and written permission for use from the owner included in the submittal.

The boards must be free of any commercial or promotional material.

Naming convention: The PDF file name should be the project name (abbreviated as necessary) followed by the primary submission contact (e.g., Fantasy Tower Complex-John Smith).

The total submission file size cannot exceed 50 MB.

CAPTIONS & COPYRIGHT

You will be required to provide copyright information and captions for each image provided. For the benefit of the jury, please be as descriptive as possible in your captions.

Once you have prepared these materials and are ready to nominate a candidate, please complete the online submission form by the deadline.
